Border commission awarded more than $1 million for Border 2012 projects

The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $1,005,000 to the Border Environmental Cooperation Commission to implement projects aligned to the objectives of the Border 2012 program. Border 2012 is a binational program focusing on cleaning the air, providing safe drinking water, reducing the risk of exposure to hazardous waste and ensuring emergency preparedness along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Working in cooperation with the EPA, the Border Environmental Cooperation Commission will develop a process for soliciting project proposals, selecting eligible projects and implementing the selected projects for EPA Region 6. Priority areas and emerging issues for this project will be determined by regional work groups. The Border Environmental Cooperation Commission is an international organization established to preserve, protect and enhance the environment in the U.S.-Mexico border region, and works in partnership with EPA to manage the EPA Border 2012 Program funds.
