NRCS and several other local sponsors recently unveiled newly completed facilities at Del Clark Lake in Stone Hill Regional Park, Minnesota, that will provide people with disabilities access to the lake for fishing. The new facilities consist of a designated parking area with three van-accessible parking lanes for people with disabilities, a floating fishing pier on Del Clark Lake, and concrete pathways between the parking area, restrooms, fishing pier, and picnic pad site.

The whole project began during the fall of 2001, when the Lac qui Parle -- Yellow Bank Watershed District approached the NRCS on the possibility of adding facilities to Del Clark Lake to provide people with disabilities access to the lake for fishing. The project plans were completed three years later in 2004, and construction completed that same year at a cost of approximately $56,000, equally divided between NRCS and the Lac qui Parle Yellow Bank Watershed District. William Hunt, NRCS State Conservationist for Minnesota, said this project has been one of his favorites. “It’s gratifying to be able to see people with disabilities enjoying the recreational opportunities that Del Clark Lake provides," Hunt said.
