Primary Topic: Rigid Pavement Description: The primary product of this study was a demonstration performance-related specification (PRS) system for PCC pavement construction. The system is designed to consider three key factors (i.e., PCC strength, slab thickness and initial serviceability) in assessing an as-constructed pavement delivered by a contractor and calculating an appropriate reward (bonuslincentive) or penalty (disincentive). Many pavement performance prediction relationships and FCC property prediction equations were evaluated to develop the performance-related aspects 0f the new system. In addition, a rather intensive experimental laboratory study of PCC material properties was conducted to develop better multi-factor prediction relationships. The demonstration PRS was developed using a computerized spreadsheet program. It was designed to be parallel to the demonstration PRS system developed under NCHRP Project 10-26A for asphalt concrete pavements. As a result of the study, recommendations were made for further research in several key areas related to PRS systems and field and laboratory studies.
