During 2006, the DOE's Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Mobile Facility has been deployed in Niamey, the capital of Niger, Africa. Operated and maintained by Los Alamos National Laboratory, the AMF will record data on clouds, aerosols, and water vapor in the atmosphere to improve global climate models. Because Niamey is in the middle of the Sahara Desert, the AMF will also record the impact of airborne Saharan dust, which can travel half way around the globe, on incoming solar radiation. More >>
