Three-Week Visit from South Africans Covers all the Bases NEW
Eleven youth baseball coaches from South Africa came across nearly every level of baseball played in the United States during a three-week program hosted by the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The delegation from South Africa, composed of seven men and four women from across all regions of the country, learned about playing, coaching, and the business of baseball from a wide range of perspectives. Ripken Baseball Returns to China NEW
As a follow-up to Cal Ripken Jr.’s successful visit to China last year as an American Public Diplomacy Envoy, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) sent a team of baseball coaches to Wuxi, China to conduct clinics for coaches and youth. ECA, Cal Ripken Baseball, and Major League Baseball (MLB) teamed up once again on a SportsUnited program that sent a delegation headed by baseball great and 11-year professional ballplayer Billy Ripken. PANAMA, NICARAGUA: Back-to-Back Home Runs for Baseball Diplomacy
The joint U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Defense’s Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) baseball initiative scored big in Panama and Nicaragua April 21 – May 7, 2008. Partnering with Major League Baseball (MLB), the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) sent former MLB player Elias Sosa as a Sports Envoy to Panama and Nicaragua to join the SOUTHCOM All-Star Baseball Team on their Friendship Baseball Tour and to conduct baseball clinics for youth.

Department of State in Conjunction with Ripken Baseball and Major League Baseball Introduce Chinese Sports Visitors to American Baseball
In cooperation with Ripken Baseball and Major League Baseball, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, ECA sponsored twelve Chinese Sports Visitors for a five week program. This program introduced the visitors to American baseball coaching techniques.

Play Ball! U.S. Department of State Brings Venezuelan and Nicaraguan Coaches and Players to United States for Inaugural World Baseball Classic
In cooperation with Major League Baseball (MLB), the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the U.S. embassies in Venezuela and Nicaragua are bringing seven Venezuelan and five Nicaraguan Little League baseball coaches and players to the United States to experience a shared love of baseball. They will attend the first World Baseball Classic and participate in coaching clinics and seminars taking place March 6-16, 2006, in Orlando, Florida, and Washington, DC.

Sports Ambassador Is 'Superb' in Venezuela and Colombia
New York Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams made his inaugural trip as a U.S. Department of State Sports Ambassador February 11 to16, 2005. In Caracas, Venezuela, Williams, who is a native speaker of Spanish, conducted two baseball clinics with 200 uniformed Little Leaguers - with 400 parents and relatives watching from the bleachers - and gave countless autographs and high-fives.
