Challenging Positions In Almost Every Imaginable Discipline

The FHWA employs engineers, planners, economists, psychologists, management analysts, program assistants, writer-editors, audiovisual specialists, attorneys, secretaries, clerks, contract specialists, accountants, personnel specialists ... the list goes on. Some are unique positions with only one or two individuals in the organization and others are the staple of the administration, but every one is essential to the operation of the FHWA.

Varying educational levels are needed; we have positions for individuals with high school, associate, bachelor, and graduate degrees. In addition to many professional positions, assistant and technician positions exist with the FHWA.

One example is the engineering field. In addition to our professional engineers, the FHWA employs engineering technicians. Technicians have either two-year degrees or practical experience. Career development assignments and training are available for interested persons. We also have other positions such as program assistants, administrative assistants, personnel assistants, accounting technicians, and voucher examiners.
