Ross Braun, winner of the Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) Public Service Award for physical rehabilitation

NRCS natural resource specialist Ross Braun was recently presented with the Government Employees Insurance Company’s (GEICO) Public Service Award for physical rehabilitation by GEICO President and CEO Tony Nicely at a special ceremony held at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.  For the past 16 years Ross has volunteered 250 hours annually with therapeutic riding centers that provide opportunities for people with disabilities to improve their quality of life, overcome disabilities, and become equestrian athletes. In 2004 he volunteered 440 hours building fences, teaching classes, and providing therapy.

Ross started with NRCS in 1983 as a soil conservationist in Iowa. From there, he took a position as a water resources planning specialist in Missouri and finally came to Washington, D.C., to work in the Animal Husbandry and Clean Water Division as a natural resources specialist. As the disabilities special emphasis program manager for NRCS, Ross educates employees about improving office accessibility and communicating with coworkers and customers with disabilities.
