NRCS Announces Release of GSAT

grazing land with windmill in backgroundNRCS has completed the development of the Grazingland and Spatial Analysis Tool (GSAT) decision support model. GSAT offers a simple, clear process to generate new customer files or to access existing files through the Customer Service Toolkit to complete resource inventories, to provide consistent analysis, and to assist the conservation planner and client in analysis of management practices.

Now available to States and the Pacific Basin and Caribbean Areas for implementation in field offices, GSAT is a web-based or stand-alone decision support tool to assist field staff in planning conservation on grazing lands. GSAT processes and produces information and data in a clear manner, directly supports the conservation planning decision-making process, and serves as a communication tool between land planner and land manager. The end result is that field staff can use GSAT to facilitate decisions about a given area in a quick and cost-effective manner. The official NRCS version can be downloaded from the USDA Service Center Web site. Those interested in training for GSAT should contact Arnold Norman, NRCS rangeland management specialist.
Your contact is Dennis Thompson, NRCS National Range and Grazinglands Ecologist, at 202-720-5010.
