Virginia's 2004 Earth Team Award Winner Recognized

NRCS State Conservationist M. Denise Doetzer recently presented Ashley Spencer of Lexington, Virginia, with the 2004 Virginia Earth Team Volunteer of the Year award. The presentation was made during the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation District's (SWCD) annual meeting at the Hotel

South Fork of the Holston Riveris one of the 10 Heritage rivers in the US. NRCS worked with local farmers and other agencies in providing buffers, fencing for livestock, roational grazing, tree planting and recreational opportunities under a cooperative effort.

Roanoke and Conference Center. Over the past five years, Spencer has volunteered her time and talents to helping with NRCS soil and water conservation efforts on private lands. She is a senior at Rockbridge County High School and plans to study environmental science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the fall.
