Michigan Department of Transportation Pavement Preservation StudyBackgroundMichigan DOT conducts an annual study, performed by an independent consultant, on the effectiveness of the Capital Preventive Maintenance Program. The Michigan program has been funded at $60 Million annually, and in 2003 the program will be increased to $73.5 Million annually. GoalThe goal of the study is to assure that funds are properly expended on the right roads for preventive maintenance activities and that the treatments used do extend the life of Michigan pavements. The outcome will document project successes and failures found in Michigan's Capital Preventive Maintenance Program. Preliminary FindingsApplying preventive maintenance treatments extends pavement life. This is probably the first such report based on actual practice in the nation. StatusThe report was submitted to MDOT's Engineering Operations Committee for review. The Committee in the Report's Executive Summary requested a minor revision. The report will be resubmitted for final approval in July. After MDOT's approval the report will be released for distribution. Key ContactLarry Galehouse |
