System |
|
|
The
Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission Monitoring System (PMTCT-MS)
is a national facility-based monitoring system developed by Global AIDS
Program, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The PMTCT-MS is a
reference system and package of tools adaptable to local needs. It was
designed to facilitate easier and faster development and implementation
of systems to monitor PMTCT programs.
This Version 1.0
of the Monitoring System is currently being field tested and evaluated.

About PMTCT-MS |
With increased attention and support, many
countries are expanding to national PMTCT
programs. As services are expanded, it is
critical to establish national systems for PMTCT
program monitoring. Such systems will involve
similar data collection, analysis and reporting
requirements across countries. The PMTCT-MS is
designed to:
- Standardize data collection and monitoring
procedures
- Provide program monitoring information to
identify progress and challenges and to
improve PMTCT services
- Facilitate standard reporting of national
and international PMTCT indicators
- Support a simple national strategic
information system for PMTCT
- Be adaptable to meet country-specific
needs

The PMTCT-MS Version 1.0 Package |
The components of the monitoring system
are as follows:
-
Registers: PMTCT service data
are recorded in paper-based antenatal clinic
(ANC) and labor and delivery ward (L&D)
registers. It is recommended that the PMTCT-MS
register columns be included in a country’s
standardized maternal and child health
registers whenever possible.
-
Monthly Summary Forms: ANC and L&D monthly
summary forms are used to report aggregate
data on the number of women and children
receiving PMTCT services.
- Instructions for Completing PMTCT-MS
Registers and Monthly Summary Forms: This easy
reference tool can be used for training and as
a job aid.
- Software Application and Documentation:
The PMTCT-MS Epi Info version 3.3 software is
user-friendly and reflects emerging standards
for integrated disease surveillance. It
features:
-
Pre-programmed reports and graphs
- Data validation checks
- Standardized user interface, data entry
screens, analysis screens
- Searchable application-specific help
menus
- PMTCT-MS Installation and User Guide
- Training Curriculum: The 11-module
training curriculum is flexible for training a
variety of target audiences. Each module
includes:
- A handout summarizing the module
- PowerPoint slides with Notes Pages
providing trainers with key messages and
talking points
- A facilitator's guide providing
step-by-step instructions for using the
module
- Exercise descriptions outlining the
purpose and instructions for the exercises
- Exercise worksheets and answer keys
- Training Tools and Teachback: Sample
course agendas and course evaluation and
training tools are included to support PMTCT-MS
training efforts. The PMTCT-MS includes tools
for training trainers using the Teachback
methodology.
