Research District workshop set today

Clean technology will be an integral part of the post-Hanford economy and the Tri-Cities Research District will be the new focal point of growth.

That vision, adopted a few years ago by community leaders, gradually is becoming reality, said Gary Spanner, manager of the economic development office at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and chairman of the Tri-Cities Research District.

But the plan for economic development isn't limited to job creation and attracting investments. It's also about forming new businesses, developing intellectual capital and attracting young professionals to the community, he said.

Today, leaders from public agencies, academia, businesses and PNNL will recognize the progress the research district has made at a TechRealization workshop. It follows up last year's TechMagination.
