The Executive Memorandum signed by President George W. Bush on May 29, 2003, directs the Department of Commerce to conduct public meetings to gather information that will assist the Department in developing a detailed set of recommendations both for i) improving policies for use of the spectrum by State and local governments and the private sector, as well as ii) improving the spectrum management process as a whole.
The following public meetings have been convened:
i) December 9, 2003 – This one-day meeting convened in the Department of Commerce’s Herbert C. Hoover Building, included presentations by a number of invited speakers who addressed issues related to improving the efficiency of spectrum use and improving the deployment of new technology and services.
ii) February 10-11, 2004 – This two-day meeting convened at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street, NW, in Washington, DC, included presentations by invited speakers who addressed issues in public safety.
iii) February 11-12, 2004 – This two-day meeting convened in the Washington, DC, facilities of the National Academy of Sciences included presentations by invited speakers who addressed a wide range of issues of concern to Federal agencies, State agencies, industry, and consumers in general.
iv) March 8, 2004 – This one-day meeting convened in the Intel facilities
in Santa Clara, California, included presentations by a invited speakers
who addressed issues of concern to service providers, entrepreneurs, and
venture capitalists.
