The EIAG leads or performs the following functions:
- Develops and maintains an accurate and transparent national emissions inventory (NEI) in a
collaborative and timely manner;
- Continually improves and ensures optimal acquisition, quality and availability of criteria
and hazardous emissions inventory information through collaboration with other EPA and Federal
offices, Multi-State Organizations, State, local, and Tribal agencies to enable multi-pollutant
assessments and data quality assurance throughout the NEI development process;
- Provides analysis and interpretation of emissions data and trends to inform air quality and
risk management decisions;
- Conducts data analysis to identify and resolve inconsistencies among emissions inventory
data, ambient monitoring data, and air quality modeling with a variety of assessment tools and
techniques, including source-receptor analyses;
- Serves as a catalyst for identification and evaluation of opportunities for multi-pollutant
strategies and solutions to environmental issues;
- Develops and implements the Emissions Modeling Framework (EMF) to constantly improve the
quality and timeliness of our emissions modeling; and
- Provides emissions modeling for regulatory and other analyses, ensuring high quality and
timely emissions data for data analysis, air quality modeling, and accountability assessments.
