NREL's Fleet Test and Evaluation work supports the U.S. Department of Energy's Vehicle Technologies and Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Infrastructure Technologies Programs.

The Fleet Test and Evaluation team works with commercial and government fleets and industry groups to test and deploy medium- and heavy-duty alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.

Fleet Test and Evaluation projects focus on the use of alternative fuels and advanced technologies in medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The team's research and development areas include:

Key aspects of Fleet Test and Evaluation work include meeting with industry stakeholders and customers to understand market factors and customer requirements, assessing the performance of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles versus their conventional counterparts, and disseminating unbiased information about the performance and durability of these vehicles. Information gathered during these evaluations is fed back into research programs to help shape future work.

Fleet Test and Evaluation work is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity and falls under NREL's Center for Transportation Technologies and Systems.
