Aerocenter Seminar Series Begins September 18
September 18, 2007
The AeroCenter seminar series begins with a talk by Brent Holben on September 18, 2007. The Center of Excellence for Aerosol Research at Goddard (AeroCenter) began the Fall season with a seminar titled "Herding CATZ" that was delivered by Brent Holben, head of the AERONET group and member of the Laboratory for Terrestrial Physics. The topic addressed an informal local field campaign (Calipso and Twilight Zone -- CATZ) held this summer on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Pennsylvannia and Virginia. The objective was to set up tightly packed local networks of instruments in conjunction with Calipso overflights. The purposes were to validate Calipso and A-Train retrievals, to create a data base for joint ground-based and satellite inversions and to pursue related science. The ground based networks of AERONET and handheld sunphotometers were supplemented by ground based MPL lidars and aircraft measurements from several different aircraft. The summer deployments involved approximately 10 Branch members and their summer students.

The AeroCenter seminar series runs biweekly from September to June. Meetings are generally on Tuesdays at 11:00 am, and speakers talk informally on all aspects of aerosol research. Information about future seminars is kept up to date on the Aerocenter calendar. Information should also appear on the Climate & Radiation Branch calendar.
