Dust Warming Antarctica Peninsula

A recent New Scientist article highlights recent research showing an increase on dust deposition and warming in the Antarctica Peninsula in the last 100 years. These observations coincide with increased desertification of the Patagonia region in the southern end of South America . The suggestion of a Patagonian origin has been reinforced in a recent paper by Dr. Santiago Gasso (UMBC/GEST) who finds vigorous dust emission of Patagonia and the long range transport of dust towards Antartica. CEOP Planning Meeting
March 19, 2007
The Sixth International Implementation Planning Meeting of the Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP) and the Coordinated Energy and water cycle Observation Project (CEOP) was held at The National Academy of Sciences building in Washington, DC from 12-14 March 2007. The meeting included a completion session on CEOP Phase 1 along with a poster session highlighting some results. The meeting also included planning for the next phases of CEOP, including breakout and plenary sessions on global and land-only modeling projects. David Mocko of the Climate & Radiation Branch attended the meeting.

Public Lecture on Earth Science Research
March 16, 2007
Climate & Radiation Branch scientist, Eric Wilcox, will give a public lecture on Earth science research at NASA and the application of satellite technology to the study of Earth and the environment at the Squaw Valley resort near Lake Tahoe, California on Sunday March 25, 2007. This invited lecture is sponsored by the Squaw Valley Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to hosting cultural events in the Squaw Valley, North Lake Tahoe community. Squaw Valley is a world-famous ski resort and site of the 1960 Winter Olympics.

NASA MAP Meeting
March 15, 2007
The NASA Modeling, Analysis and Prediction (MAP) Program held a Science Team meeting at the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center, College Park, Maryland from March 7-9, 2007. At the meeting, MAP community activities and future direction were discussed. Science results were also presented in both oral and poster presentations. Branch personnel that attended included Winston Chao and David Mocko.
