Our Changing Planet: The View from Space, co-Edited by Michael D. King, Claire L. Parkinson, Kim C. Partington, and Robin G. Williams, was recently published by Cambridge University Press. This book explains the critical role that satellites have played and continue to play in observing the many changes taking place on our home planet and is the culmination of seven years of effort. It chronicles change on many different spatial and temporal scales, from movements in the land and volcanic eruptions, to human-caused changes such as the growth of cities, deforestation and the spread of pollutants in the atmosphere and oceans. Multidisciplinary Workshop on Southern South American Dust

The “Multidisciplinary Workshop on Southern South American Dust” was held October 3-5, 2007 in the city of Puerto Madryn, Argentina. The event was organized by Dr. Santiago Gassó of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Goddard Earth Science and Technology Center (UMBC/GEST) in collaboration with Dr. Ilan Koren of the Weizmann Institute and local colleagues, Prof. Diego Gaiero of the University of Córdoba and Dr. Hector Del Valle of CENPAT-CONICET. The meeting was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and its local equivalent (CONICET). It was attended by 30 international researchers representing eight countries (US, Germany, UK, France, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia and Italy) and approximately 20 local scientists. Full Story
