BAMS Hosts Two Articles by Climate & Radiation Branch Members
September 27, 2005
The September issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS), the flagship publication of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), hosts two articles by NASA/Goddard/Climate & Radiation Branch members: (1) Air Quality forecasting cover article; (2) Intercomparison of 3D Radiation Codes (I3RC).

(1) The cover article of the issue, "Improving National Air Quality Forecasts with Satellite Aerosol Observations," features use of MODIS aerosol producs for forecasting Air Quality. This is a collaborative work between the MODIS aerosol group at Goddard Space Flight Center and researchers at the NASA/Langley Research Center and the Environmental Protection Agency. The cover illustration is a MODIS visible image of the US east coast from summer 2005.

(2) The I3RC project, is led by Drs. R. Cahalan and A. Marshak, and includes participation by several Climate and Radiation Branch members, as well as research groups in several countries. The paper concludes that efforts such as I3RC underscore the vast progress of 3D radiative transfer modeling in recent years, and highlights the challenges ahead for routine implementation of 3D algorithms in remote sensing and energy budget applications."
