Carson City

Carson City County covers about 150 square miles in area and extends to the east shore of Lake Tahoe. Altitudes range from 8,695 ft at Marlette Peak to 4,687 ft in the valley floor in Carson City. Carson City County, as of the 2000 census, had a population of 52,457 with growth continuing today. The town of Carson City was founded as a community in 1858, seven years after the first European settlement of Eagle Station trading post in 1851. President Abraham Lincoln, recognizing the importance of Nevada's silver and gold to the Union's Civil War effort, signed the proclamation that ushered Nevada into statehood on October 31, 1864.
