Branch Activities in Costa Rica

During Jan/Feb 2007, Dr. Robert Cahalan served as a U.S. Embassy Science Fellow in San Jose, Costa Rica. As part of his work there, Dr. Cahalan facilitated the membership of Costa Rica in the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), and on May 21, 2007, Costa Rica became the 70th country to formally join GEO. During June 2007, Dr. Cahalan lectured on clouds and aerosols at the International Symposium on Remote Sensing of the Environment (ISRSE2007), organized around the 9 societal benefits of GEO. 16th Conference on Atmospheric & Oceanic Fluid Dynamics
July 2, 2007
The 16th Conference on Atmospheric and Oceanic Fluid Dynamics sponsored by the American Meteorological Society was held in Santa Fe, NM, 25-29 June, 2007. Over 200 papers, ranging from stability of flows to stratosphere-troposphere interactions, were presented. For the first time this conference had sessions exclusively for tropical dynamics and climate. The Bernard Haurwitz Memorial lecture "The Consequences of Not Knowing Low and High Latitude Climate Sensitivity" was presented at this conference by David Rind of NASA/GISS. Winston Chao of CRB attended this conference and gave his presentation entitled "The Origins of ITCZ, Monsoon, and Monsoon Onset." Full Story
