S.K. Satheesh Wins Prestigious ScopusĀ® Award for Earth Sciences

Dr. S.K. Satheesh, an ORAU Senior Fellow and Associate Professor with the Indian Institute of Science, currently visiting the Climate & Radiation Branch, has won the ScopusĀ® Award for Earth Sciences. Yoram J. Kaufman Unselfish Cooperation in Research Award

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) will be awarding a new annual award in Yoram Kaufman's name entitled the "Unselfish Cooperation in Research Award". AGU's announcement reads in part: "This award is named in honor of Yoram J. Kaufman, an outstanding atmospheric scientist, mentor, and creator of international collaborations who worked on atmospheric aerosols and their influence on the Earth's climate for his entire 30-year career. New Stochastic Cloud Model Software Released

A new simple and fast algorithm for generating two correlated stochastic two-dimensional (2D) cloud fields has been just released by Alexander Marshak (Climate and Radiation Branch) and Sergei Prigarin (Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics, Novosibirsk, Russia). Recent news article in Nature about weekly cycle in rainfall
December 10, 2007
A recent news article in Nature discusses work by Dr. T. Bell and colleagues in the Climate and Radiation Branch, concerning evidence from the TRMM satellite that summertime rainfall over the SE U.S. tends to be larger in the middle of the week than on weekends. A paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research is expected to appear next month describing these and many other observations related to this weekly cycle.
