Today, FBI Director Robert
S. Mueller, III, made the following statement:
"I am pleased to
announce the appointment of Bruce J. Gebhardt as Executive
Assistant Director for Criminal Investigations. He will
replace Ruben Garcia, who retires next month, and will
have primary oversight responsibilities for the Criminal
Investigative and Cyber Crime divisions, which represent
a significant portion of the FBI's investigative programs.
"Bruce's 27 years
as a Special Agent have seen him investigating general
criminal and organized crime matters in the Denver and
San Francisco field offices, supervising drug cases
in the Los Angeles field office and the Criminal Investigative
Division, and completing two appointments in the Inspection
Division. He has previously served as Assistant Special
Agent in Charge of the Newark field office and Special
Agent in Charge of the field offices in Phoenix and,
later, in San Francisco.
"This combination
of headquarters and field experience and proven ability
both as an investigator and as a manager make Bruce
well suited for one of the most senior leadership positions
in the FBI. As EAD for Criminal Investigations, he will
also serve as Acting Director in my absence. I have
great confidence that Bruce will keep the FBI on the
cutting edge of criminal and cyber crime investigations."
