Governor Patrick Launches Mass In MotionOver half of Massachusetts adults, and one third of middle and high school students are overweight or obese. To address this problem, Massachusetts is launching Mass In Motion to prevent overweight and obesity and to reduce chronic disease — with a particular focus on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.Mass In Motion features a multi-faceted approach that includes regulations to promote healthy eating and physical activity, grants to cities and towns to make wellness initiatives a priority and a new website to give Massachusetts' residents tips on how to integrate healthy eating and physical activity into their daily lives.
Free Nicotine Patch GiveawayMassachusetts veterans and their family members who are interested in this program should call the Massachusetts Smokers Helpline at 1-800-Try-To-Stop (1-800-879-8678) to order a free four-week supply of nicotine patches. The patches are valued at $100 retail and come with informational resources on the benefits of quitting smoking and tips on how to stop. Program participants will also receive free telephone support to help them quit. The nicotine patch giveaway program will run through June 30, 2009.
