NERSC Services

NERSC supports its high performance computing users with a wide array of services. The primary points of contact for users are the NERSC Consulting and Account Support staff. The consultants provide help on any topic related to running high performance computing codes at NERSC. They also install and maintain software, provide documentation and training, develop and maintain the NERSC web site, and actively work with HPC scientists to help them get the most out of NERSC's resources, serving as a liaison between NERSC's users and its staff.

Account Support and Allocations

NERSC Account Support and Allocations handles account creation, password changes, and allocation support. These can be requested by sending email to support@nersc.gov or by calling 1-510-486-8612 (or 1-800-66-NERSC, menu option 2) during business hours Pacific Time.

Startup awards are available for new projects that wish to investigate using NERSC resources, or who wish to port or develop new codes. A request for a Startup project account may be made at any time during the year, and decisions for Startup requests are made by NERSC within one to three weeks after applying. Consulting

NERSC's consultants assist users with all aspects of running their codes at NERSC, including code performance tuning, debugging, running jobs, and software recommendations.

Grid Computing

Users can access several NERSC resources via Globus grid interfaces using X509 grid certificates. NERSC is part of the Open Science Grid ( OSG), and is available to select OSG Virtual Organizations for compute and storage resources.

Software documentation and manuals, and how to request additional software.

Training

NERSC training classes, presentations, on-line tutorials, and how-to's.

SPECIAL REQUESTS & SERVICES


24x7 Computer and ESnet Operations support

The Computer Operations and ESnet Support group provides 24x7x365 monitoring and first-level troubleshooting for the NERSC computational systems and storage environments. They also provide basic Account Support functions, especially password changes. They operate the ESnet Network Operations Center (NOC) on an around the clock basis and can be reached at 1-510-486-6821 (or 1-800-66-NERSC, menu option 1) or by email at operator@nersc.gov.
