Joan Mancuso obtained a B.A. in Political Science from The American University, School of Government and Public Administration, in 1970. She began her career with the Federation of American Hospitals as a legislative analyst and editor of a monthly newsletter for member hospitals. She later worked for the National Council of Senior Citizens on a project funded by a federal grant to provide legal assistance to indigent elderly people in local communities. Joan joined the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases in 1992 in the Office of Scientific Director. Joan became Chief of the Administrative Management Branch for the Intramural Research Program, NIAMS in 2005. The Administrative Management Branch provides professional services in the areas of budget, personnel, procurement, and travel to all areas of the program.
