Volpe Center Environmental Programs

The Volpe Center provides support to the U.S. Department of Transportation and other public agencies in the area of environmental analysis. The Volpe Center applies its extensive scientific, engineering, and policy expertise and facilities to analyze the impacts of transportation operations and infrastructure on the environment and society. As national and international attention toward environmental issues has increased, environmental analysis has become an integral component of the planning, development, and deployment of new transportation systems. The Volpe Center has established prominence and recognition in transportation-related environmental analysis through its involvement in activities encompassing data collection, field sampling, data analysis, and modeling (both forecasting and simulation). Additionally, our environmental experts assess current compliance concerns and issues, plan and develop environmental assessments to assist in environmental consideration for future transportation projects, and protect the environment and communities through full scale remediation efforts. The Center, actively engaged in the preservation and enhancement of the natural and human environment for over 30 years, is an acknowledged national and international resource and center of expertise.
