COMMERCE DEPARTMENT RELEASES REPORT AND HOLDS CONFERENCE

ON BRINGING THE BENEFITS OF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY

TO UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

Commerce Secretary William Daley to Release Report at 11:15 a.m

WHAT: The Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration will hold a one day conference featuring over 500 community leaders from across the nation, who will discuss innovative ways they are using information technology to strengthen their communities. Demonstrations will be set up in Lobby throughout the day.

The Commerce Department will also release a report, using examples from its Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Assistance Program (TIIAP), on the pivotal role these technologies can play in equipping American workers and entrepreneurs, students and teachers, doctors and patients, and parents and children with the skills and tools they need to meet the challenges of the Information Age.
