WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has added a search engine to the "Federal Standard 1037C, Glossary of Telecommunication Terms," to its website at http://www.ntia.doc.gov or http://www.its.bldrdoc.gov.

NTIA's Institute for Telecommunication Sciences developed a new search engine for the on-line hypertext version of the 1996 Federal Telecommunication Standards glossary. The glossary includes over 5800 definitions ranging from communications security to information superhighway terms. The search engine allows a user to search for any group of characters. The user can "click" on the term of interest to view the entire text of the selected results.

The glossary was created in cooperation with the Federal Telecommunication Standards Committee. The telecommunication glossary is a mandatory standard for all Federal agencies. The search engine has recorded over 4000 hits since it was made publicly available.

"The addition of this search engine will be a valuable resource to researchers, students, businesses, and others who need quick assistance in finding telecommunications terminology used in the telecommunications arena," said Larry Irving, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator of NTIA.
