WASHINGTON - The Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has established a new website that will serve as a clearinghouse for information on the Clinton Administration's efforts to close the digital divide, Gregory L. Rohde, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information announced today.

The announcement of the website came at the end of a Digital Divide Summit in Washington which was hosted by Commerce Secretary William M. Daley. The summit brought together government, industry, civil rights and community leaders from across the country to explore ways in which the economic benefits of information technology could be made more accessible to all Americans.

"The new website will provide the public with easy access to information about the Administration's programs and initiatives aimed at closing the country's technology gap," Rohde said.

The purpose of the website is to provide the public and media with information on the Administration's ongoing initiatives to close the technology gap by promoting technology and economic development in underserved areas.

NTIA serves as the principal adviser to the Executive Branch on domestic and international telecommunications and information policy issues.
