WHAT: The Clinton Administration and the EC2 at the University of Southern California Annenberg Center for Communication will join representatives from the non-profit and private sector in hosting a two-day conference to discuss digital media content for children and teens. The Conference will feature panel discussions, breakout sessions and software demonstrations. Additional information on the Conference is available on the Conference Website at http://whis.ec2.edu. The conference is open to the press and the public.
Background Info: This is the
third conference in a series sponsored by the Clinton Administration: the
first was held in December of 1997 and focused on safety issues for children
on the Internet, the second was held in February and focused on access
to the Internet for all Americans.
WHO: Vice President Gore is tentatively scheduled to give keynote address Thursday, June 11. Commerce Secretary William Daley, leaders of major entertainment and computer companies, and children, teachers, and others interested in making sure that quality content is available for children will participate in the Conference.
WHEN/WHERE: Thursday, June 11 - Friday, June 12, 1998, Los Angeles Airport Hilton and Towers, Los Angeles, California
AGENDA: The Conference will feature five panel discussions, four breakout sessions, and a closing plenary session.
In addition, software demonstrations will be held throughout the conference. Panel topics include:
Leading Edge Content: New Technologies
+ New Ideas = New Media; Connecting Virtual Villages for Learning; Renaissance
Kids: Children Authoring with New Media Tools; Tales from the Classroom:
Educators Identify Best Practices; and the Online Marketing Maze. The breakout
sessions will address: Grants, Incentives, & Partnerships for Development
of New Media Content; Greenspace in Cyberspace: What will it Look Like?;
Overcoming Barriers to the School Market; and Developing Content for Teens
Only.
