The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) produces maps of the United States that show probability of precipitation and temperature being above or below normal based on data from previous El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events.

  • Previous ENSO Events - Previous El Niño and La Niña years and intensity of event.
  • El Niño Impacts on U.S. Climate - Maps for the lower 48-states provide insight into the likelihood of extremes of temperature and precipitation during El Nino events.
  • El Niño Impacts State by State - State-specific maps by climate division compare temperature and precipitation conditions during strong El Niño years with normal conditions. Bar graphs show the likelihood of extremes of temperature and precipitation.
  • La Niña Impacts by Region - Pie charts provide temperature and precipitation probabilities for being above or below average during La Niña years for climate regions in the lower 48-states. Bar charts provide maximum, minimum, and average temperature and precipitation.
  • El Niño's Influence on U.S. Precipitation Amounts - A series of maps depict United States lower 48-state's precipitation for the November-March periods for non-El Niño years, El Niño years, and the very strong 1982/83 El Niño by number of days and percentage of days in a specific range from 0.01 inches to greater than 1.0 inches.
  • El Niño, La Niña, Neutral - Snowfall for Selected Cities - Bar graphs depict mean snowfall for selected U.S. cities in El Niño, La Niña and neutral years.
