On August
19, acting on a tip provided to the FBI's Office in Phoenix,
Arizona, officers of the South African Police Service arrested
two American citizens in Capetown, South Africa who are accused
of robbing six banks throughout the American Southwest and
Pacific Northwest over the past 6 years. The pair is charged
with serial robbery, beginning with a robbery on August 13,
1997, of Norwest Bank in Scottsdale, Arizona, and proceeding
through subsequent robberies in Oregon, Colorado, and New
Mexico.
The two
have been featured on the television show America's Most Wanted
6 different times. They have been tracked across the country
and the world, to include Belize and British Columbia. Now,
thanks to excellent cooperative efforts across the world,
they have been arrested and are expected to be extradited
from South Africa to answer to warrants in Arizona, Oregon,
Colorado, and New Mexico.
