New Orleans, LA. -- Donald E. Powell, the president’s top official for Gulf Coast rebuilding, today addressed graduates from the New Orleans Video Access Center’s (NOVAC) Louisiana Film Crew Training Program which prepares graduates for careers in the Louisiana film and television industry.

“It is an honor to be here today to recognize you and your achievements,” stated Powell. “You are the beneficiaries of job opportunities created by employers in the local film and TV industries, and the skills you bring to the table play a vital role in this city’s rebuilding efforts.”

Powell remarked that because of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the graduates had been given the opportunity to help tell the story of New Orleans and the region’s rebuilding efforts through their work in television and film.

“Many of you could have moved to another city for careers in this industry but you didn’t,” said Powell. “By enrolling in this program and completing it, you have said ‘I believe in this town and I want to be a part of its rebirth.’ I commend you on your commitment and look forward to seeing the results of your labor.”

The New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC) is a non-profit media center developed to foster the creation and appreciation of film and video in the New Orleans area for a public of diverse ages, income levels, and backgrounds. NOVAC’s Louisiana Film Crew Training Program provides intensive job training and job placement services, free of charge, for individuals who want entry level work in the thriving local film and television production industry.

For the last twenty-three months, the Office of the Federal Coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding has been engaged in facilitating and streamlining various components of the recovery effort, providing key federal support and resources to local leaders, and reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to the people of the Gulf Coast.
