New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Response to the September 11, 2001, Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center Towers in New York City This is a 6-month, detailed, chronological summary of the New York State Office of Acholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The Impact of 9/11 on New York City's Substance Abuse Treatment Programs: A Study of Patients and Administrators This is a summary of a retrospective study of the impact of the terrorist attacks on New York City's drug abuse treatment programs and their patients. It was conducted by New York State OASAS from December 2002 to April 2003. The primary objectives were to identify problems encountered and lessons learned so that treatment agencies are more prepared to respond to future crises. In addition, the study included secondary analysis of treatment admission data collected prior to and immediately after the terrorist attacks.

Public Health Arena … Substance Abuse Needs: Lessons Learned from the 2005 Hurricane Response This presentation, developed by the SAMHSA Disaster Technical Assistance Center, addresses substance abuse lessons learned from the 2005 hurricanes.

The Impact of the World Trade Center Disaster on Treatment and Prevention Services for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse in New York: Immediate Effects, Lingering Problems, and Lessons Learned This report details the response of the New York State OASAS, Federal agencies, city and county governments, and providers to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the 6 months after, through the experiences and stories of New Yorkers. These writings are designed to help other States prepare for disasters, especially human-caused tribulation. Lessons learned by New York can assist others in looking at current system capabilities for response, providing service in the face of disaster, and protecting not only the clients, but also the service providers.
