National Wear Red
Day 2004
Friday, February 6,
2004, is National Wear Red Day, a day when people nationwide will take
women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support for raising
awareness that heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. By
showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, Americans will unite in the
national movement to give women a personal and urgent wake-up call about their
risk of heart disease.
National Wear Red
Day is just one of the activities planned as part of The Heart Truth
Campaign's celebration of American Heart Month. The Heart Truth is a
national awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the
National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National
Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS).
On February 2,
NHLBI will unveil a newly-designed
Red Dress Pin as the
official national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. The Heart
Truth first introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol during
American Heart Month at Fashion Week in February 2003.
On February 6, the
Red Dress will come to life on the runway in New York City with the debut of
the Red Dress Collection 2004. At a star-studded Red Dress fashion show, top
models and Hollywood celebrities will walk the runway to debut 24 red dresses
created by leading fashion designers for The Heart Truth's Red Dress
Collection 2004.
Also in February,
NHLBI will announce The Heart Truth Road Show, presented by Johnson
& Johnson. From March to April 2004, The Heart Truth Road Show
will bring heart health information to women across the United States. Visiting
shopping malls in five metropolitan areasPhiladelphia, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, and San Diegothe Road Show will include free heart disease risk factor screenings
for women, educational materials, and an exhibit that will feature a display of
dresses from The Heart Truth's Original Red Dress Collection 2003. For
