Responsibilities
  • Advising senior FAA management on general aviation matters
  • Determining the need for and recommending general aviation research and development projects
  • Determining the need for new or amended general aviation regulations
  • Developing national policies, standards, systems, procedures, and programs for general aviation
  • Developing operations specifications for those operations that require them
  • Developing regulatory support products, such as advisory circulars, to supplement or explain how to comply with regulations
  • Developing standards, policies, and procedures for appointing private individuals to represent the FAA Administrator for the certification of airmen such as designated pilot examiners
  • Leading the Rotorcraft Task Force
  • Managing the National Examiner Board (NEB) by which private individuals can be selected to represent the Administrator
  • Processing petitions for exemptions from specific regulations
  • Representing general aviation interests within the FAA and other government agencies and organizations, including foreign governments
  • Reviewing regulatory programs
