What is ODE?

The "Ocean Data Explorer" (ODE) is a software package that provides interactive graphical exploration and conversion of oceanographic vertical profile data stored on the Pacific Region Ocean Data Suite (PRODS) optical disc media.

Features

The main features of the ODE allow the user:

  • Explorer Argo profiling floats' metadata and "waterfall" plots of the measured parameters,
  • Select and sub-set large in-situ data collections using spatial/temporal metadata,
  • Convert in-situ station profile data from the NODC NetCDF format to the ASCII and/or Java OceanAtlas Spreadsheet text format, and
  • Retore the compressed ".tgz" format files stored on optical discs.

ODE Installation

The ODE, developed in Java, can be run on any platform that has a Java Virtual Machine available. The current version of ODE requires JDK/JRE 1.4.2 or greater. If you don't have JDK/JRE 1.4.2 or greater installed on your machine, select the "JVM" (Java Virtual Machine) versions of the installers, otherwise, select the "ODE without "JVM" versions. The JVM version of ODE will install a "local" copy of JRE 1.4.2 on your machine. Local means that this JRE is installed along with ODE relative to the ODE installation directory.

The platforms supported currently by ODE include Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris. To install ODE, use the ODE Web installer . The Web installer will install automatically the appropriate version of ODE depending on your machine's operating system. Or, click your platform below to save the ODE installer to your disk:

Using ODE

There is Help to guide the user though the steps involved in utilizing the following ODE features.
