Commerce Secretary Praises Record Exports

Washington (Sept. 11)—U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez issued the following statement on the release of the July 2007 U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services report which showed that U.S. exports increased by 11.4 percent to $916 billion year-to-date (through July) over 2006. Imports also increased 4.6 percent to $1,330 billion and the trade deficit narrowed 8 percent during the same time period. “With our trade deficit for the year shrinking by 8 percent, today’s numbers clearly show the positive impact of exports and trade on the American economy.” (More) (Fact Sheet)
