Speaker Biographies

Mary Alice Gettings, M.S., R.D., C.D.E.

Nutrition and Health Agent, Penn State Cooperative Extension

Mary Alice is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator and has been employed with Penn State Cooperative Extension for eight years. Prior to that time, she spent nine years working in hospitals in the Philadelphia area as an in-patient and out-patient dietitian. She received her bachelor's degree in Nutrition from Penn State University in 1984 and then received a master's degree in Technical and Science Communications from Drexel University in Philadelphia in 1993. She became a certified diabetes educator in 1990.

In her role as nutrition and health agent with Penn State Cooperative Extension, Mary Alice conducts nutrition and food safety programs for the citizens of Beaver and Butler counties.

Mary Alice is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Pennsylvania Dietetic Association, Pittsburgh Dietetic Association, and the National and Pennsylvania Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. In addition, she serves on the Beaver County boards of the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association.
