Speaker Biographies
Evelyn DeNike
Evelyn DeNike, Public Affairs
Director, Food and Drug
Administration, Detroit District,
serves consumers, educators, industry,
health professionals and the media
through educational programs which
encourage wise economic and health
decisions and responsible industry
practices.
Mrs. DeNike received her Bachelor
of Science degree in Home Economics
and Journalism from Wayne State
University and has taken graduate
courses in Consumer Affairs. She is
Certified in Family and Consumer
Sciences.
Formerly she was a County Extension
Agent for the Macomb County
Cooperative Extension Service, an
Advertising Director for a local firm
and Department Chairman of Home
Economics for Lakeview High School.
While at Lakeview, Mrs. DeNike
directed the development of one of the
most extensive public school Home
Economics programs in Michigan.
She is past President of Consumer
Educators of Michigan, the Michigan
Association of Family and Consumer
Sciences and the North Central
Association of Food and Drug
Officials. Mrs. DeNike has received
awards and been honored by the Food
and Drug Administration, the Detroit
Chapter of Women in Communications,
the Association of Food and Drug
Officials, the American Home Economics
Association and was selected as the
Outstanding Home Economist, 1992, by
the Michigan Home Economics
Association. She was awarded the
highest recognition of the North
Central Association of Food and Drug
Officials with the 2001 Meritorious
Service Award.
