Juneau Assembly Approves $600,000 For Emergency Structures

January 2007 (AK) — If disaster strikes in Southeast Alaska, don't be surprised if you get medical care in a tent. The Juneau Assembly unanimously voted during a Monday meeting to front the nearly $600,000 needed to purchase six "emergency shelters," with the promise of reimbursement from a federal grant. The six shelters will cost a total of $563,814, which ultimately will be paid for with a grant from the Homeland Security Grants Program. The grants are administered to areas that are part of the "Metropolitan Medical Response System."

City OKs $45K for Antidote Supply

December 2006 (TX)— The Amarillo City Commission recently approved the purchase of antidotes to common biological agents, which will cost the city a little more than $45,000 to protect residents.

NNE MMRS Successfully Set Up A Community Based Acute Care Center

November 2006 (Hanover and Lebanon, NH)— On November 15th, 2006 the Northern New England Metropolitan Medical Response System (NNE MMRS) conducted an emergency response exercise. The exercise simulated an infectious disease mass casualty event in order to test the hospital and surrounding community's response capacity and capabilities.

Northern New England MMRS and athenahealth Pilot New Emergency Response Model

November 2006 (Northern New England)— Today, an emergency response exercise will be held at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the surrounding community. The exercise will simulate an infectious disease mass casualty event involving a large number of patients. The exercise will test the hospital's ability to provide surge capacity during large scale events and to effectively distribute additional patients to alternative care facilities in surrounding communities.

Nebraska Counties Run Largest Incident Response Exercise in State's History

November 2006 (Nebraska) — Preparedness and rapid response to major incidents represents the key component of the nation's Homeland Security initiative. To prepare for a large-scale incident, a tri-county area in Nebraska conducted a multi county, multi jurisdictional exercise known as "Operation Triple Play" to test preparedness and response in the event of a major disaster in the area.

Omaha Hospital Treats 'Contagious' Victim in Drill

October 2006 (Nebraska)— Memorial Community Hospital in Blair participated in "Operation Triple Play," a full-scale disaster exercise conducted by the Omaha Metropolitan Medical Response System on Saturday, Oct. 28. Organizers said it was the largest disaster drill in Nebraska's history.
