Introduction
Purpose of Teacher/Student Learning Packet :
This packet has been prepared to provide background information about Hoover
Dam and the surrounding area. It includes learning activities to promote an
understanding of Hoover Dam's impact on the environment, and it's technical
and historical significance for the United States. The student activities may
be used either alone or in conjunction with a visit to Hoover Dam. Please feel
free to reproduce and share the information in this packet.
Contents:
The information has been separated into four main sections: History, Wildlife,
Water Resources, and Hydroelectricity. Within each section you will find
the concepts that are stressed by the material, background information for
learners, suggested activities to aid learning and understanding, charts,
posters, puzzles, and a bibliography for further resources.
Hoover Dam Mission Statement:
Hoover Dam is a project of the Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior.
Reclamation's mission is to manage, develop and protect water and related
resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner for the benefit
of the American public.
We believe that providing this educational information to you will further our mission goals by helping the students of today understand how the decisions of the past have helped to shape their lives and the future.
