Codex was created in 1963 by two United Nations organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World
Health Organization. Codex develops food standards, guidelines and codes of practice in order to protect the
health of consumers, ensure fair food trade practices and promote coordination of food standards undertaken by
international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The CCFICS, hosted by the government of Australia, was established to develop principles and guidelines for
food import and export inspection and certification systems to facilitate trade through harmonization by supplying
safe and quality foods to consumers. This includes measurements made by competent authorities to provide assurance
that foods comply with essential requirements.
Interested U.S. parties should submit their comments by email to Dr. Michael Wehr, Acting Deputy Director, Codex
