Hispanics and HIV/AIDS
(HHS National HIV Testing Mobilization Campaign, August 2007)

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, and it is hitting Hispanics hard. Even though Hispanics represent only 14 percent of the U.S. population, they accounted for 18 percent of all new cases of HIV/AIDS in 2005. HIV/AIDS is the third leading cause of death among Hispanic men ages 35 to 44 and the fourth leading cause of death among Hispanic women in the same age group.

In 2004, HIV/AIDS was the fourth leading cause of death among Hispanic/Latino men and women aged 35 to 44.
