Q: What is NOAA Weather Radio?
A: For information on the subject, please visit our NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) page. The page you are viewing is designed to allow
you to tune into the internet broadcasts.
Q: How can I listen in to the products in the NWR Routine broadcast cycle?
A: You will a media player intalled on the PC that you are using to browse the Internet. Most
computers already have a player installed, so you may not have to download any special software. You will
also need to be connected to the Internet at 14.4 Kbps or faster, we recommend a 28.8 Kbps connection or
better for the best results. Click on the link for the NWR product you wish to listen to, and your default
Media Player will load and play the MP3 clip.
Q: Are these truly live broadcasts?
A: The audio MP3 files you are listening to are excerpts from the transmission from our seven NWR
transmitters in Flagstaff. Routine products in the respective NWR broadcast cycles have been encoded as MP3
files, and placed on our web server so that you may listen to them. Each time a routine product in the
broadcast cycle is updated, a new MP3 file is encoded, so that whatever you are listening to is always
current.
Q: What weather information will I hear over these web broadcasts of NOAA Weather Radio?
A: The web broadcasts contain only selected products from the full suite available on NOAA Weather
Radio. Currently, you can listen to a description of the general weather pattern expected over the next few
days, a weather forecast for specified areas, a daily climatological summary for Flagstaff, and hourly
observations from around the state. Currently, weather watches, warnings, and advisories are NOT
available through these web broadcasts off NOAA Weather Radio. A method to deliver these products is being
investigated. Stay tuned for additional improvements to these web broadcasts as they become available.
