ANTITRUST DIVISION NAMES NEW DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
FOR ECONOMIC ANALYSIS

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Department of Justice's Antitrust Division today announced the appointment of Timothy F. Bresnahan, as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for economic analysis. The appointment was effective July 1, 1999.

As Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Bresnahan will be responsible for supervising all economic analysis within the Division and directing the Division's Economic Analysis Group.

"The Division is extremely fortunate to have on board an accomplished economist with such impressive credentials," said Joel I. Klein, Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Department's Antitrust Division. "His talents and expertise will assist substantially in ensuring that American markets remain free and open and that American consumers are protected from anticompetitive actions."

Bresnahan is on leave as a professor of economics at Stanford University. Bresnahan received his Ph.D and M.A. degrees in economics from Princeton University. He received a B.A. degree in economics from Haverford College in 1975.

Bresnahan, 46, currently lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife Lenis Hazlett and their two children, Matthew and Claire.
