ANTITRUST DIVISION ANNOUNCES NEW SPECIAL COUNSEL

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Justice today announced the appointment of Melvin A. Schwarz as Special Counsel for Civil Enforcement in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General, Antitrust Division.

Mr. Schwarz will serve as an advisor and counselor in all legal and administrative matters of a civil nature, including advising on complex policy, regulatory, and litigation-related concerns. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Schwarz served as a partner at the Brussels, Belgium, office of Dechert, Price and Rhoads, where he was in charge of European Union competition law, handling international arbitration cases and international antitrust cases involving United States as well as foreign legal issues. He has an extensive background in the prosecution and defense of antitrust claims and counterclaims, intellectual property and licensing and securities fraud. Mr. Schwarz received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
