U.S. v. William F. Farley
Civil No.: 92C1071 (N.D. I11.)

Civil complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Illinois, seeking a civil penalty from William F. Farley of Chicago, Illinois, for violating the premerger notification and waiting period requirements of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. The complaint alleges that Farley violated the act between March 24, 1988 and June 22, 1988 when he failed to comply with its notification and waiting period requirements before acquiring more than $15 million of West Point-Pepperell stock. The act permits a federal court, upon the Justice Department's request, to assess a civil penalty of up to $10,000 for each day a party is in violation.

U.S. v. Joseph C. Hughes
Criminal No.: 92-25N (E.D. Va.)

Two-count indictment returned in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Virginia, charging Joseph C. Hughes, former General Manager of Birtcherd Dairy, Inc. and presently General Manager of Marva Maid Dairy, with perjury, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1623, and obstruction of justice, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1503, in connection with his May 7, 1987 testimony before a federal grand jury investigating violations of the antitrust laws and other federal criminal laws by persons or companies engaged in the dairy industry.
