Fireworks
Prohibited on Stanislaus National Forest
Sonora, CA (July 1, 2008) ... The Forest Service announced that
Forest Service fire and enforcement officials are strongly reminding visitors
that fireworks are prohibited everywhere on the Stanislaus National Forest. In
Tuolumne County, possession or use of all fireworks, including Safe and Sane, is
prohibited by County Ordinance.
Possessing or using fireworks & causing a fire of any kind on National Forest
land is strictly prohibited by the Code of Federal Regulations. Forest Service
fire prevention and law enforcement patrols will check campsites and strictly
enforce the prohibition on fireworks, and violators will be cited. In addition
to Federal Law, all State of California fire laws, listed below, are in effect
on Stanislaus National Forest lands.
Persons caught with illegal fireworks will be cited and prosecuted.
Possession of large amounts can be a State felony. For any of the above
violations a person may be cited, or they may be arrested.
In addition to the fact that possession or use of any fireworks is not
allowed at all on Stanislaus Forest lands, a person who starts a fire as a
result of using fireworks may face serious penalties. The Stanislaus Forest is
experiencing severe fire risk due to the dry spring weather. Use of fireworks
could easily start a fire. The Forest Service and CAL FIRE actively investigate
all fires. If the violator is found they will be cited and will be assessed the
cost of suppressing the fire which can be extremely expensive.
In Calaveras County, all fireworks are prohibited in the Ebbetts Pass Fire
Protection District and Central Calaveras Fire & Rescue Protection District
(Hathaway Pines, Avery, Arnold, Dorrington, Mountain Ranch, Sheep Ranch,
Railroad Flat, and Glencoe)
